NEW BRAVE NEW WORLD CD - "SPORK"
The new Brave
New World album, "Spork," is now on sale (see ordering info above). Adam is thrilled to be working with mixing wizard
Jeff Jones, also known as the Jedi Master. Adam worked with
Jeff a while back at RVI studios, and Jeff helped record and mix Adam's
first solo album, "In A Loud Way." Jeff recently won a Grammy for his
production work on Dr. John's new CD, "The City That Care Forgot."
The
album, originally intended as a 25 minute EP, will now be a regular
length CD. Adam says "we had enough strong material, so what the heck..."
The recording approach and the material are very 'old school'; most
of the songs were recorded live in the studio, that is, the whole band
playing together at the same time, like back-in-the-day! The music is
uncompromising, there are no attempts at a 'radio song', just loud,
blazing, EPIC slabs of face-melting jazz-rock. Tracking was done at
world famous Avatar
Studios in New York City, and mixing is proceeding at Jeff
Jones' World Alert Studios, also in New York.

Why "Spork"? Well, sporks don't fit easily into
any common category. Neither does jazz-rock! ...And there you have it!!!
A Special Preview Edition of the new CD will be available (hopefully)
in time for our tour, sometime in mid-October. Make sure you don't miss
out on this sure-to-be-a-collector's-item-maybe-sometime-pretty-far-down-the-road-in-
the-future Special Preview Edition!!

ADAM WITH 'MILES FROM INDIA'

Return of the Miles 1986 band: Darryl Jones,
Adam, Vince Wilburn
in Budapest, August 2009
Adam recently performed with the Miles From India band at this BIG rock
festival in Budapest, Hungary, called the Sziget Festival. Adam re-united
with Miles compadres Vince Wilburn and Darryl Jones. "It was great playing
with those guys again." Adam will be performing with the Miles From
India project in Paris on November 2nd (while on tour with Brave New
World).
AWESOME RECENT PROJECTS!!!!

This
past July adam performed and taught at the Veneto Jazz workshop
in Bassano del Grappa, a program put together in connection with
the New School University. "The students were all really cool
and very talented." Adam also had a great time playing with the
excellent faculty musicians; Dave Glasser on sax, Ron Horton on
trumpet, Dave Stryker on guitar, Amy London on vocals, Cameron
Brown on bass, and Jeff Hirshfiled on drums. And a shout out to
coordinator Teri Lucas! One of Adam's totally favorite things
in Italy:
spaghetti vongole! |
SOLO SYNTH CONCERT

In addition to the workshop Adam also did a Solo
Synth Concert in conjunction with Veneto Jazz's sister festival, the
NU Fest, an electronic music festival. Adam performed an hour of improvised
and composed solo electronic pieces, using mostly Moog gear supplied
by synthesizer expert Enrico Cosimi (thank you Enrico!). The concert,
in the medieval courtyard of the Museo Civici, was received extremely
well by both the public and the
press. Adam hopes to do more Solo Synth concerts in 2010.
AWESOME
JAMS IN THE ALPS
In
August Adam was at the Outreach Music Workshop
in Schwaz, Austria, teaching and performing. This year
the theme was "Miles ...And More," so Adam was
involved with most of the special events.
Especially exciting was a performance of the Miles'
complete
"Tribute To Jack Johnson" album, with Franz
Hackl on trumpet, Mike Kenneally on guitar, Brian Beller
on bass, Lorenz Hargassner on sax and Abe Fogle
on drums.
Other concerts included a cool recreation of the entire
"Doo Bop" album featuring Austrian beat-boxers
Bauchklang, and the complete "Bitches Brew"
performed by the Outreach Orchestra.
The events were a big success, and it is possible a
CD of the "Jack Johnson" performance might be
made available soon. So hang tough, bub.

NOW THIS IS REAL RETRO!

While in Austria Adam also played with Franz Hackl, master trombonist
Dave Taylor, legendary french horn player John Clark and recorder virtuoso
Winifried Hackl at a very famous ancient monastary, Stifts Stams. This
place was built in like 1100 AD! For this special private event Adam
played harpsichord!! (they call it a 'cembalo' in Europe...) The music
was a sort of baroque-meets-jazz concept, and the concert was very successful.
Repetoire ranged from medieval music to "Billie Jean."
ALSO!!!!
DROID
Adam will be performing with Droid, the 'live' drum n' bass project
led by Amir Ziv and Jordan Mclean, at a Special Loft Concert on October
10th in the Lower East Side. Click
here for details. This particular configuration of Droid
will be a trio with Adam covering the bass AND keys, plus special guest
vocalist Sissy Clemens. So get a grip, pal!
BELEDO
Adam just played a very
cool gig with Uraguyan master guitarist Beledo at the Yonkers Riverfest.
We played Beledo's original material, he has some really good tunes.
On bass was Lincoln Goines, with Kim Plainfield on drums. The band was
killing, and Adam hopes to do more gigs with these guys.
JAMMING WITH THE ROOTS!
Adam has also
been playing off and on at the Roots Jam at the Highline Ballroom in
NYC. "What a killer band. It's a great revue of rappers and instrumentalists.
Mos Def sat in a few weeks ago!"

MOOG-related NEWS!!!!

Last June Adam visited the Moog factory in Asheville, North Carolina.
"It was a blast! Everyone was so nice. What a great place." A big shout
out to MoogFolks Mike Adams, Linda Lafferty and Chris Stack!! Thank
you! While down there Adam picked up his new Voyager OLD SCHOOL, one
of the last available! This synth is Truly Pure Analog; no midi, no
patch memory, no digital elements. It has the same voice architecture
as the regular Voyager, but without any 1's and 0's confusing the issue.
This baby SINGS! Sound just floats out of it like water. Of course I
will probably use the regular Voyager on most gigs (it still sounds
great, of course); program memory has pretty much become a necessity
in this day-and-age. But I will be using this sucker in the studio constantly! Check out Adam jamming in Frankfurt at the Moog Booth!

MILES FROM INDIA PROJECT
Produced
by Bob Belden, Adam co-produced and performed on some of the tracks
on this exciting new double CD concept album featuring renowned Indian
musicians collaborating with Miles alumni. The Miles alumni include
John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Lenny White, Mike
Stern, Pete Cosey, Michael Henderson, Benny Reitveld, Vince Wilburn,
Robert Irving and many others! The Indian musicians are all exceptional,
but there is one track, "Ife (fast)," where Adam plays some
Minimoog alongside this amazing female violinist, Kala Ramnath, that
is a particular favorite. Wow. There will be a few select performances
with some version of this project in New York and L.A. Adam will be
performing with the Miles From India project at Town Hall in New York
City on May 9th, 2008."
The album will be released in April.
