REBELLION
The product of Jazz-Rockers hell-bent on dissing the music biz. Why not break ALL of the rules? Who needs a label? Who needs a producer? Who needs a fancy studio? Heck, who even needs songs for that matter? These were the questions we asked ourselves, and attempted to answer. We also enjoyed doing our own dental work while we were at it.
"Rebellion" is an album of spontaneous jams by Brave New World in their long-term rehearsal spot on New York's Lower East Side. Recorded digitally to multi-track (the sound is pretty good!), the off-the-cuff jams were then edited and overdubbed (very little) and presented to you, the listener, as the Ultimate Sonic Toaster Muffin.

THE FENTS

FIRST OFFENSE
This original release from 1982 was re-released in 2001 with 3 additional bonus tracks recorded in 1986.
Adam Holzman - keyboards
Ted Hall - guitar
Doug Hodges - bass
Larry Anderson - drums
Laurence Cottle - bass
Moyes Lucas - drums
Back in the early 80's the Fents were one of the original Second Wave Striving Jazz-Rock Bands, co-led by Adam and guitarist Ted Hall. The group was together for 8 years and had 2 main line-ups, both of which are presented here. This CD contains the entire "First Offense" album from 1982, which was produced by Doors producer Paul Rothchild. "First Offense" has been sonically enhanced and re-mastered by Ted Hall, who is now an awesome digital recording and mixing engineer at Pacific Ocean Post (P.O.P.) in Santa Monica.
Also included on this CD are 3 unreleased tracks by the final edition of The Fents, which featured British bass phenomenom Laurence Cottle and master drummer Moyes Lucas. These tracks were recorded in 1985 and are actually out-takes from the next album, "The Other Side," which was released in 1987. The CD also has thorough liner notes which document The Fents story. Fascinating. Own a piece of jazz-rock history!!! Reflect on the timelessness of it all....

ABOUT "JAZZ ROCKET SCIENCE"
Some twisted thoughts and irrelevent concepts...
Now that the album is finally out we can have a little fun! Time to clean up all those broken ashtrays and pizza crusts -the Jazz-Rock Moment has arrived! We must seize the day! However, the only way to change the Universe is with Knowledge. So, we have provided here a handy-dandy guide listing JAZZ ROCKET SCIENCE's trivia and talking points, which you can refer to in your leisure time...
The Title: I've always been a science fiction fan. I'm interested in finding ways to link science fiction with jazz-rock (as ridiculous as that may sound) and I think I've finally hit the right tone with this title. "JAZZ ROCKET SCIENCE" balances a Free Improv Spirit with Fun Technology!
The Tunes (mp3 samples in yellow):
1. SUPERHERO
I wrote this song with Drummer Alex Elena and guitarist Mitch Stein. As you can tell from the title, I'm also a comic book fan. My favorites are Spider man and Green Lantern.
2. LIFE ON MARS
Do you think there's life on Mars? Of course there is. Now that that's settled, check out the Minimoog bass on this track, and Alan Burrough's guitar solo at the end.
3. THE TELLTALE HEART
A somewhat involved piano ballad inspired by the Edgar Allen Poe classic, and a little bit of Peter Gabriel. Complete with backwards sax solo by Aaron Heick.
4. THE WHOLE WORLD IS EVERYWHERE
My son looked out the window one day (when he was 7) and announced that "the whole world is everywhere." I thought to myself "I guess it is..." Great bass playing from Freddy Cash.
5. FIREWIRE
A fast burning jazz-rocker with a trendy title. Also inspired by "On The Corner," the classic Miles Davis album.
6. LEVEL 3 INTRO: AIRLOCK
Influenced by Stockhausen and early electronic music. Plus, I love the airlock scene in the first "Alien" movie.
7. LEVEL 3 CONTAINMENT SUIT
This song emerged out of an opening jam the band played on tour in Europe. The title refers to the Festive Protective Clothing one must wear in Hostile Environments -such as the music biz!
8. MARIA RAIN
Written in, and named after, a small town in the Bavarian Alps where the band performed and hung-out for a few days.
9. KADIDDLE HOPPER
Written with drummer Alex Elena during work on our previous album "Rebellion."
10. KRYPTONITE
Inspired by some of Herbie Hancock's recent projects. A true combination of "Jazz" and "Rocket Science."
11. MILES RUNS THE VOODOO DOWN
After playing with Miles in the 80's it's great to go back and explore some of his earlier electric masterpieces. This song appeared on "Bitches Brew." - Adam
Check out this tasty review of "Jazz Rocket Science":
The Jazz Rock pioneer keyboardist and ex-Miles Dave sideman Adam Holzman, has got the Jazz Rock Funk groove going in high gear on this great recording. For those of you familiar with Adam's work, you already know he's a Funkmeister, not a shredder and his new recording doesn't disappoint. Adam's approach to composing often makes me think of what Tower of Power would sound like if their music was arranged by Miles Davis. That's a compliment of the highest order.
From beginning to end of this new Cd, the listener is treated to music composed and performed with great skill and integrity. Adam is like Jazz Rock's version of a fine wine - he keeps getting better with age. As usual, Adam provides you with great Jazz Rock Funk without having to get your ears blown off.
